For Nervous New Hams

Are you a new ham radio operator and feeling a bit nervous about making those first few contacts?  I can remember back in 1975 my first CW contacts as a Novice…it seemed overwhelming at first.  Read and watch this by Cliff – a great teacher:

It’s not uncommon for new hams to feel anxious about making their first amateur radio contacts. In fact, it’s perfectly normal.

This video is my attempt to help these hams realize that it’s okay to make mistakes… it’s part of the learning process and, no matter how competent you become, you will still make mistakes.

Just remember this key phrase, “So what?”

What Is Ham Radio? (Amateur Radio)

What Is Ham Radio?

So, just What Is Ham Radio, anyway?

According to the ARRL (American Radio Relay League), Ham Radio is:

“Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) is a popular hobby and service in which licensed Amateur Radio operators (hams) operate communications equipment.”

The ARRL goes on to say:

“Although Amateur Radio operators get involved for many reasons, they all have in common a basic knowledge of radio technology and operating principles, and pass an examination for the FCC license to operate on radio frequencies known as the “Amateur Bands.” These bands are radio frequencies reserved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by ham radio operators.”
